This text aims to report an experience lived by a teacher with 9th-grade students in the subject of Learning Recovery, at a full-time public school in the interior of Paraná, Brazil. The proposal was developed using the approach of Mathematical Modeling and focused on femicide, a social issue that resonated with students following an episode of violence against women in the municipality. The activity was based on real data extracted from the Gender Violence Map and sought to answer the question: is it possible to estimate the number of femicides in Brazil in the coming years? Organized in small groups, the students analyzed graphs, established simplifications, identified patterns, proposed solving strategies, and constructed algebraic expressions to estimate future data. The productions revealed different interpretations and promoted critical discussions about social reality and the role of Mathematics in this process. The experience enabled work with content gaps and descriptors addressed in external evaluations in a contextualized manner, contributing to learning recovery and the development of critical thinking.
