The aim of this workshop is to develop a methodological proposal for teaching the division operation, based on Lorenzato's (2006) theoretical framework. Initially, we will present some aspects of the Decimal Numbering System (DNS) and the manipulative materials: Golden Material and Place Value Board, exploring their potential for understanding the DNS. Next, we will propose to the participants, organized into groups, a task that deals with the division operation, collected from the Paraná Mathematics Activity Book (2009), material made up of questions similar to the Saeb/Brazil Test. We will assist the groups during the solving process, establishing a dialog about the obstacles they face with regard to the division operation. Then, in the large group, we will solve the task with the help of the Golden Material and the Place Value Chart with the intention of provoking reflections on this methodological proposal for teaching the division operation. This workshop will last 4 hours and there will be 30 participants.
