Abstract

An African proverb says that it takes a whole village to educate a child. Its meaning reminds us of collectivity and allows us to reflect on what care work is like in black maternity wards. maternity. Through a bibliographical study of the book Matricentric Feminism, Theory, Activism and Practice (2016), by Canadian professor Andrea O'Reilly, this study aims to provide a comparative analysis of patriarchal motherhood which it is - a historical concept opposed by Matricentric Feminism - with African American African-American motherhood, including the historicity of their daily social, political and cultural lives, political and cultural, in order to reflect on the importance of motherhood within black feminism.
